Henry Bloomfield, songwriter, vocalist and musician, joined Officially KMUSIC‘s New York media team this past Fall, to share an exclusive scoop on his musical journey and future activities.
The artist graduated from Oberlin College in May 2011 with a BA in English, when he decided it was time to pursue his true passion – music. Bloomfield later studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in 2011, seeking a degree in Contemporary Writing and Production.
Recently Henry became active with his own band serving as the keyboard player, arranger, vocalist and songwriter. Also joining him were Berklee students Sungtaek Oh (drums), Tom Zmuda (alto sax), Hoonhyung Lee (electric bass) and Neal Rosenthal (trumpet).
When asked about his musical influences, Bloomfield was quick to name one musical legend.
“I think of Jamie Cullum,” he shared while nodding his head, “the jazz, piano, rocker British guy. I recently saw him in Japan and actually Korea when I was in Korea and he just – the energy he brings to each song is just totally respectable and he is a good performer and is truthful to his art.”
When one listens to Bloomfield’s work such as “Her Leaves” or “Ms. Mary”, it is quite evident that jazz, funk, pop and blues inspire his personal productions.
A day in the life of the musician consists mainly of trying to come up with inspiration for the next hit track.
“It can be in the music practice room but more times than not, it happens outside of that actual atmosphere which is actually more interesting that way,” he explained, “When an idea comes randomly I take it to the piano to kind of just figure it out … it can drift pretty quickly.”
To combat stress, Bloomfield looks to the outdoors for relief.
“I’m a big fan of running. There’s kind of an emotional high. When I’m trying to figure out which way to go about a challenge or song, should it have this element or not, it suddenly becomes clearer while running. I swear it works,” he exclaimed with a laugh.
