This March, HYBE’s boy groups have been dominating the charts in a different way: with new solo releases.
j-hope of BTS kicked things off in the first week of the month with “Sweet Dreams,” a track featuring American RnB singer Miguel. This new single was the member’s first project since his special album, HOPE ON THE STREET VOL.1, came out in March of last year. The track is a soulful, heartfelt serenade that expresses the human desire to love and be loved. The song blends dreamy synths, bold guitar strums, and smooth vocals, mimicking the contradictory feeling of falling in love.
Just last week, j-hope returned once more with another single, “MONA LISA.” Unlike his early-March release, “MONA LISA” is a solo track with no features, and shows off another side of his talent and charms. This single is a love song paying homage to uniqueness and one-of-a-kind beauty; each person has their tender charm, just like the famous painting. The song blends RnB and Hip-Hop genres, with a groovy rhythm and a funky chord progression that’s equally as memorable as it is catchy.
This week, to round out the month, BEOMGYU of TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) will be releasing his first solo mixtape, “Panic.” This single is self-written, and is an expression of the young idol’s delicate emotions. The song portrays the singer’s courage and tenacity as he braves the dark and cold world, emerging in victory. Representing BEOMGYU’s journey of finding solace through his music, the song reflects on his moments of relying on music for support. With heartfelt, meaningful lyrics, electric guitar riffs, and heavy drums, the track was made in collaboration with singer-songwriter Heo Hoy Kyung.
Though fans are used to seeing HYBE artists top the charts with their groups, their artists really shined this month with their various solo releases instead, showing off their versatility.
