There’s already trouble in paradise even though Girls Generation‘s Taeyeon and EXO‘s Baekhyun‘s relationship has not even entered the honeymoon phase. There has already been much controversy surrounding the SM Town couple’s relationship.
A percentage of EXO fans and Sone’s, Girls Generation’s fanclub, feel somewhat betrayed by their biases. With broken hearts they have taken what they think is the right path about “celebrating” the couples’ new found love.
It appears that Baekhyun’s fans aren’t containing their disapointment very well and have in fact created a petition to ask that he leave EXO. One furious fan took it upon themselves to launch the petition online, demanding Baekhyun terminate himself as a member of EXO. The petition received more than 1,800 signatures before it was completely deleted from the website; those who signed the petition did so in belief that Baekhyun “mocked” his fans.
It was also apparent at the SBS music show, Inkigayo, that fans were not pleased with this new relationship. Receiving a monsoon of requests asking for Baekhyun to step down as the programs current host. During Sunday’s Inkigayo airing some audeience members even chanted “betrayer” toward the end of the show. Disregarding his relationship with Taeyeon, this isn’t the first time saesangs have victimised Baekhyun.
Last Thursday, the 19th of June, rumors regarding Taeyeon and Baekhyun’s relationship started floating around the World Wide Web. The two were photographed in a car supposedly on a date, the location of which was reportedly in the vicinity of EXO’s home in Seoul. Within 3 hours of the rumors surfacing, SM Entertainment confirmed the 4 month relationship between the two artists. Stating that ““The two started off as a close senior-junior friends but recently developed feelings for each other and are in the beginning stages of a relationship.”
“The reason Sones and EXO fans are so disappointed in you is not because you’re dating. You two are in your twenties, not every fan would be against you dating. But the actions you showed us.. posts that we thought you uploaded for us to see, nicknames we gave you… To turn it all into secret codes for each other, masking them as messages to your fans. It makes me so sad and angry that you deceived us. Baekhyun, your promise to wait until 35.. You were the first one in EXO to break it. Taeyeon, all of those messages we thought you were sending us, the same messages we laughed and worried over… Do you not see how we feel? You two practically begged to have your relationship recognized and we recognized it and now we’re hurt. Is this what you wanted? We heard your voices and were so happy for you…” A translation by Netizenbuzz derived from a Nate article, this comment describes how many fans feel about the situation.
Taeyeon has gone to great lengths to deal with the way she feels about affecting her fans in such a way. After arriving in Japan today she set out to find a Korean speaking person to convey her most sincere apologies to her fans, whom she has unintentionally hurting. Using two version of the word sorry, one being more respectful than the other, which she used intending to reach out to both older and younger fans in desperation.

This isn’t the first time she has reached out to fans in an apologetic tone regarding her relationship with Baekhyun. Taeyeon has used her Instagram account as a medium to communicate with fans and convey her deepest apologies. Though it has since been deleted the post it was captured by many fans and is now circulating the internet:
“I feel like no matter what I say right now, it could all be perceived differently”
“I’m not trying to explain myself, but rather I want to speak to you in the hopes that you would stop hurting at least one day earlier.”
Most fans that felt they were affected and felt ‘betrayed’ by the duo, did due to the posting of similar selcas by the two, which were then interpreted as images that mocked the public scrutiny of their relationship.
Taeyeon also commented on this situation, “I did not post these [photos of her and Baekhyun] with the intention [of hurting the fans] at all, but most of the people on Instagram claimed I had fun putting up blatant pictures on Instagram.”
“They claimed I mocked the fans. I felt like there were a lot of people who were thinking this way, so I wanted to get my words in. That was not my intention or goal at all.”
Meanwhile EXO has lost over 180, 000 members on their Fan Cafe, dropping them from third place in the male group rankings, to ninth. Though who is to say that the couple going public was the whole cause of so many fans leaving.
The couple are still together even throughout this week long ordeal. We are forced to wonder though how much longer will the disagreement, between them and their fans, continue? Can they be strong enough to withstand the controversy?
We here at KMusic hope that our readers who may have been hurt by this news, we wish to just mention that Taeyeon and Baekhyun are people too. They make mistakes, fall in love and have lives to live outside their persona’s as idols. Sometimes, even when promises are made, you have to understand that things don’t go as you plan. Supporting your idols choices, no matter what, is a much better way to show them you care for them than almost anything else you could do.
Please stay with Officially KMusic as we continue to bring you news of this young couple and the bumpy path they have landed on.
