On the 10th day of K-Christmas, K-Pop gave to me
10 Dancing Machines,
9 Unexpected Treasures
8 Clean Shiny Debuts,
7 Perfect Comebacks,
6 Groups That Rocked Their Niche,
5 Awesome Videos,
4 Sexy Concepts,
3 Glorious Maknaes,
2 Sets of Twins,
And One Epic Comeback!
One of the things that K-Pop is famous for is having some of the best dancers on the planet. On this 10th day, we’re going to share 10 of our favorite dancer and dance practices of the year. I am a huge dance-junkie so I will be saying little about these videos so we don’t all drown in my feels.
B.A.P. ‘1004 (Angel)’
B.A.P. are arguably some of the strongest dancers in K-Pop and have been since their debut. Despite what we now know to be horrible working conditions, their dancing never seemed to suffer. All that would make this better would be a dance rehearsal version.
Infinite ‘Back’
Infinite about to be here twice, deal with it. When it comes to K-Pop dancers there is only one group better and that’s SHINee. Sadly, SHINee didn’t have a comeback this year. Infinite have near perfect synchronization and a lyric execution that can not be taught. I would love to have them choreographed by some of the greats, Nappy Tabs for example, just to see what amazing thing could be created.
Infinite ‘Last Romeo’
Everything I just said still applies, plus the fact that you can see Woohyun with his hand in his pocket in an attempt to keep his injured shoulder stabilized. And yet, completely in sync with everyone else. THAT is commitment and skill.
Taemin ‘BeatBurger ‘Ace’ Concept Video’
The original choreo and dance practice for ‘Danger‘ were so beneath Taemin‘s skill-level they were almost painful to watch. It was like he was teaching the back-up dancers a basic dance class. This however, this displays Taemin’s incredible dance skill to a tee.
BeatBurger x Eunhyuk
This pretty much doesn’t need an introduction. Just watch the glory that is Eunhyuk and two SM back-up dancers doing what they do best.
Jay Park ‘So Good’
Jay Park and Prepix, what more do you need?
VIXX ‘Error’
VIXX has always had intriguing choreography but it has really reached a new height with this dance. This is just the dance practice without any of the special effects, though you can click here to get that one.
BTS ‘Danger’
For a group that has not really passed out of rookie stage, BTS is really in a different realm. They have some of the most solid talent in the market right now and, provided they keep being as well handled by Big Hit as they have been, we will be treated to dances like this for a long time.
B2ST ’12:30′
B2ST is also a legendary dance group and the choreo for ‘12:30‘ is another excellent example of hard-work and talent coming together to make something amazing.
Teen Top ‘Missing’
There are so many things I could say about this but I’ll keep my commentary to the dancing. This is another group that has really put in their hours of hard work and deserves to reap the rewards.
I’m sure you noticed a lack of girl groups on this list and there’s a simple reason for this: very seldom is the emphasis put on difficulty or story-telling. I know there were good dances done by girls this year but when held to the same standard as the men they are just not even close. Understand that I give them more credit than almost all of these groups, they dance in heels, on their periods and make it look easy. They also do it with incredible professionalism despite the fact that they have to know that every man over 12 is creeping on them. My hat is off to every one of those ladies for will and determination. Maybe next year my hat can be off to them for difficulty as well.
Can you think of anyone I missed? Let me know in the comments!
