We’re so close to the holiday! In honor of unexpected things that always seem to happen this time of year, here are 9 of the best unexpectedly amazing songs.
Swings ‘Victorious 2’ Featuring GRAY
If you don’t know Swings, you really are missing one of the best Korean rappers in the market. He’s got a signature style that will just blow you away. He just headed off for his mandatory service, despite being originally exempt for medical reasons, which seriously puts him in the good guy category. Now you’ve got the next 20 or so months to become a fan so we can be ready together when he comes back.
Nell ‘Four Times Around The Sun’
Nell might not be as deeply indie as they once were, but they are still relatively unknown outside of the domestic market. For a band that has played the Texas festival SXSW several times, that’s pretty darn crazy. This was their first release of the year and, just like 2012’s ‘The Day Before‘, it will punch your feels and keep you coming back for more, though the feels for ‘Four Times Around The Sun’ are of course, dramatically different. This is a song that I listen to daily and I’m sure you will love it just as much as I do.
Philtre ‘Last Scene’ with Choiza and Lim Kim
This is one of those songs that once you hear it, you wonder how you lived without it. Ok, well that’s how I feel about this song and every song on this list. This is a powerful song, fitting for the mood of 2014. The video is admittedly a little disturbing, but not so much so that it should be avoided. Philtre had an amazing song last year with Younha and I am eagerly anticipating 2015’s release, whenever it might happen.
Wheesung ‘Night And Day’
Wheesung is life, at least according to a couple of our editors. This is one of those powerful and sweeping romantic songs that DOESN’T end in someone’s death (yay!) and no one else could look so boss just sitting in a chair. As a bonus, the video features Teen Top‘s C.A.P. and Girl’s Day‘s Yura.
Stay Foolish ‘Boom Boom’
This is one of those bands that I stumbled upon one night in a late night YouTube binge and I have never looked back. I love their sound, I love their lead singer’s voice, I love this song. As a fair warning, this video carries a 19+ rating.
DANakaDAN ‘Stuntman’
Again, if you’ve not heard DANakaDAN, you are missing something special. This song has great meaning for him, as he explains in the lyrics, and is just all-around a special song.
Ra.D ‘As Always’
I have a serious love affair with Ra.D‘s voice. This particular song has a definite R&B sound to it, as so many of his songs do, but there is something extra special about it that I just can’t explain. This is another song that I listen to daily and I’m willing to bet that you will love it too.
The Groo ‘Cold Cherry’s Growing Pains Remix’
If you watched ‘Heirs‘ you probably know this song or rather, the original. Cold Cherry’s song ‘Growing Pains’ was featured on the OST for the popular drama, and in honor of a joint concert the two groups did earlier this year, The Groo did a remix. Man, this is a seriously good remix. I love remixes almost as much as I love dance practice videos. Though it has no video, I don’t think it loses anything by not having one since the listener can just focus on the music and not get distracted.
Rumble Fish ‘The Virulent Song’
This song has such a unique sound, almost like it was made decades ago. The vocals are so strong and so powerful, with such a unique tone to her voice. This was actually one of the first songs I fell in love with in 2014.
So, what do you think of these 9 songs? Had you heard any of them before? Let us know in the comments below!
