Akdong Musician fans were overjoyed to receive a cover of iKON‘s ‘BEST FRIEND‘ from Suhyun. She uploaded the video on her Youtube channel Mochipeach.

Suhyun opened her Youtube channel primarily to share beauty and make-up tutorials. So, at the beginning of the video, she explained that because she is a vocalist by profession, there were a lot of requests for her to sing. That is why she decided to open a radio-like segment called ‘Mochi’s Bright Night‘, where she will sing songs requested by fans. She added that for the first video of this segment, she picked a song that she herself wanted to cover. And that song turned out to be none other than iKON‘s ‘BEST FRIEND‘.
Besides iKON‘s massive hit ‘Love Scenario‘, ‘BEST FRIEND‘ is another widely-loved track from their album ‘Return‘. Quite aptly named, ‘BEST FRIEND‘ is a mellow yet somewhat bubbly song that tells the bittersweet story of a boy with a crush on his best friend, who is already in a relationship.
Suhyun‘s covered the song in her own style. Her cover is in a higher pitch compared to the original song, which allowed her to show off her sweet falsetto in the hook. In addition, Suhyun also added her own melody to the rap verses. As expected from an experienced musician, it blended so well with the rest of the song that no one listening to her cover first would be able to tell the actual rap parts apart. Suhyun sang the whole song in a simplistic manner with no exaggerated melismata. This made the cover sound very clean and calming, letting the listener focus on the melody and just get lost in the flow of the music.
