DΞΔN is an R&B singer-songwriter who was born in 1992. He started his music career at the age of 16 when he joined a crew with Korean rapper Keith Ape. Two years after, he discovered his passion and talent for songwriting. The songs he later on wrote for idols groups, such as VIXX and EXO, became instant chart killers. The last songs he composed were ’World tour‘ for Lee Hi or ’Bingle Bingle‘ for Block B.
DΞΔN debuted as a solo artist in 2015 with his English single ‘I´m not sorry, featuring Eric Bellinger. His second Korean single ‘Pour Up,’ featuring ZICO, received the “Best R&B/Soul Song of the Year” award by the Korean Music Awards. This award is one of the most respected awards in Korea. He has already released 5 singles, and his first EP 130 Mood: TRBL was released last month.
We had a chance to talk with DΞΔN about his career, and he shared his visions for 2016 as well as how he got into music, how fans should listen to his music, and if he plans to release an album in America.
When did you first get into music?
16 years old, I got into music through rap. I would write lyrics and record at home, and as I listened to hip-hop and urban music, I got more and more into it. I began producing and as things progressed, I naturally expanded into various fields in music.
Who are your ideal collaborations?
Many artists remained in my memory, but in particular, Anderson .Paak was the most memorable.
How do you feel being invited to SXSW?
Well first off, SXSW is a festival where many artists participate in and to be able to stand on this stage with this many amazing artists is very nice experience for me and an honorable position. Thank you.
What are you plans for 2016?
I have released many tracks in 2015, but in 2016, through the EP that will be released on 3/25, I plans to have more performances. Afterwards, I plan to release a single in the US and an album is in the works. This year, whether it be through performances or broadcasts, I want to meet my listeners through various outlets.
What do you want listeners to feel from your music?
Honestly, I´m sure the listeners will feel a variety of things while listening to my music, but I feel that my role is simply to make the music. After that point, I tend to leave it up to the people to have fun with it. The point/highlight to focus on this album are the little detailed sounds interlaid into the background. Whether it is cricket noises, the sound of a dog barking, or TV static, I think it will be fun for people to listen while keeping an eye out for these sounds too.
Do you plan to release more music in America?
I´m not sure, but I feel that CL and Kieth Ape are going on a different route than me. They are showing very good music in their respective grounds, and I too will show my unique color in my own suitable field. As I continue to share my music, I think that I will be able to eventually find my own way towards success.
Any words to your fans?
I want to say thank you so much to those who listen to my music. My album that I poured my heart into, 130 Mood: TRBL, is out, please listen to it from start to finish without pausing. If you listen to it with closed eyes, then like a movie, special scenes will begin to play out, and it will be a unique experience. I wish that everybody will buy and take a listen to this album. Thank you.
