Drug Restaurant have made their comeback with the album ‘403‘ and the title track of the same name.
The song ‘403‘ is moodily eerie and haunting at the same time. It’s a beautifully crafted rock song that in parts is reminiscent of iconic 60s rock band The Doors. I know that’s a big call, but it’s a justified comment for this song and this band.
Surprisingly for a Korean rock band the song is sung entirely in English by vocalist Jung Joon Young, which shouldn’t really surprise us, given how talented he (and the rest of the band is).
The lyrics were written by Drok.Q, and the song was composed by Jung Joon Young with Dammit. The song is about a complicated and tumultuous ending to a relationship.
The song opens with a haunting piano playing in the background, but is then weighed down by the grinding bass and pounding drums which define the shadowy, moody concept of the track. By the time we hit the chorus and the guitars are added it’s almost like you’ve been given a moment of reprieve before we dive back down into the depths again.
The video clip is a picture of tormented solitude with Jung Joon Young alone in a room (presumably Room 403) with neon lighting serving to highlight the downcast, moody concept.
