This time around we will be concentrating on 2013 girl group Wa$$up!

Wa$$up made quite the splash with their debut and it’s still debated fiercely whether the groups debut was a good one or bad one.

Formed by a collaboration between Sony Music and Mafia Records, Wa$$up consists of seven members: Jinju, Sujin, Nada, Nari, Jiae, Woojoo and Dain, and made their debut with the self titled track “Wa$$up.”

Prior to their debut though the members released multiple teasers and dance practice videos. Now these dance practices weren’t of the typical K-Pop variety but were for a style that hadn’t really made much an appearance in K-Pop up until that point and that would be “twerking.”

Now I decided to help out those who still may not be familiar or for those who might not be exactly sure what “twerking” is and looked up the definition.

Wikipedia:
Twerking (/ˈtwɜrkɪŋ/) is a type of dancing in which an individual, usually a female, dances to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low squatting stance.

Member Nari even did a “Twerk Tutorial.”

As you can see by the girls’ video, they seem to be quite good at the dance genre.

Want to check out the girls official music video debut?  You can check it out here.

Member Nari is at it again and also did a tutorial for the dance for the debut track.

Okay before I get any more into their musical career how about we talk a little about the members!

An interesting fact Nada and Nari both appeared in Hyuna’s “Ice Cream“ MV and B1A4’s “Baby Goodnight“ MV.

As well as releasing the music video for their debut track, Wa$$up released a music video for Nada’s solo track “Bang Bang” for their debut.  The song really showed off Nada’s rapping skills, you can check it out below.

Wa$$up also have trained in the dancehall genre, a Jamaican music style with its roots in reggae and which has taken on a faster beat in the last few years with the addition of digital instrumentation. Check out their fierce cover here.

They have also done a cover of Madonna‘s “Girls Gone Wild.”

The girls have released two music video’s since their debut, as well as two special Christmas music songs.

“Hotter Than A Summer”

“Nom Nom Nom”

“La Pam Pam Pa”

“Jingle Bell”

The girls also like to have fun and uploaded this funny but hard to do little video. That is not an easy move to pull off!

Want to keep up to date on the girls you can check out one of their YouTube channels here or here. You can also check out Mafia Records official website. The girls also have a Cafe Daum, Facebook and Twitter accounts to keep track of these energetic gals.
