Well the 2013 MelOn Music Awards are over for another year.

The annual event is one that is looked forward to not only by the artists nominated but also by their fans around the world.  The performance stages are always some of the most well organized and designed, and this year was no exception.

The show was opened with a performance by Rose Motel with their song “Please Call Me Oppa”.  Their stage was a rocking affair getting the event started with energy and panache.  It definitely made sure that the fans in the live audience were awake and paying attention.

Next to follow them onto the performance stage was Sistar with a special performance of sub unit group Sistar 19’s “Gone Not Around Any Longer”.  Hyolyn and Bora took to the stage first via the use of magic tricks and started the performance with the duo’s signature table dance for the routine.  Soyou and Dasom then joined them on the stage as part of the back up dancers for the rest of the song.  The girls then transitioned into the group’s song “Give It To Me“.  Throughout the performance all the girls took a turn doing a little magic, from changing the color of the handkerchief to making a cane out of a very large feather.  They also did a little bit of a quick change act for the song.

Next was a very special stage by violinist Son Sue Kyung of a beautiful mash up of the nominee’s for “Best OST”.  It was very hard to tell that it indeed wasn’t one song she was playing.

Following this stage was a special collaboration stage between Baechigi and Ailee.  The trio performed their song “Shower of Tears“.  The gentleman looked very sharp and Ailee looked beautiful as always.  The crowd really cheered the trio on.

Immediately following them BTS took to the stage to perform their debut song “No More Dream“.  For being rookies, I have to say the boys did a good job and didn’t look too nervous.  With barely any segue BTS and Baechigi then both took to the stage to perform a very fun collaboration mash up of “The Rise Of Bangtam” and “Nice To Meet You” and  they really got the audience jumping on this one.  It was wonderful to see such a fun performance between a veteran of the industry and a rookie group.

The next performances were all very special.  With a total of 4 artists taking to the stage to cover 4 “legends of Kpop” songs.  Lim Kim started the stage with her cover of Cho Young Pil‘s “Short Hair“, the rookie singers voice was truly lovely to hear.  Following her Huh Gak took to the stage to do his cover of Lee Moon Sae’s “Standing In The Shade Of Trees“.  The next one on stage was Ailee and she rocked it!  She covered Shin Seung Hun’s “Romeo & Juliet” and the stage was jumping and it only got more amazing when Shin Seung Hun joined her on stage to finish the song.  All 4 singers then converged at the front of the stage to sing “My Melody“.  It was a very touching cover and became an emotional moment for all.

The next group up was EXO.  We first were treated to a fun VCR, styled after the “Twilight” series before the boys took to the stage to perform their extremely popular song “Wolf“.  The stage was powerful and energetic as always.  After another short VCR the boys of EXO were back on stage again, this time performing their song “Growl“.  The audience was ecstatic and the fan chants were amazing.

Dynamic Duo followed the boys of EXO with a very inventive performance of “BAAAM“.  The duo used the amusing technique of having a black backdrop with performers dressed in black, so you can’t see them, to have some fun with their stage.  From their legs not being their own to making a table and chairs fly; the performance was definitely one of a kind.

IU than claimed the stage to perform her latest track, “Red Shoes“.  She looked positively glowing in her red dress and her stage was as sweet as she is.

B2ST were up next as the second to last group to take the stage; they showed a truly magnificent performance of their hit single “Shadow“.  They started the stage with a dance intro showing the audience why their choreographer originally gave them their name!

Last but certainly not least onto the stage was SHINee.  SHINee’s stage had each of the boys covering one of their older hits, with Onew flying high as he sang “Lucifer” (and holding the longest note ever), Minho doing a rock version of “Ring Ding Dong“, “Juliette” was covered by Key, Taemin became “Sherlock” and Jonghyun sang to his “Dream Girl“.  The boys than left the stage to be replaced by 5 of the boys of EXO doing a cover of “Why So Serious“.  They did a good job but no one can do a SHINee song like SHINee.

The stage then got dark as SHINee once more took to the stage.  The final performance was the boys latest tack “Everybody” and they made sure everybody knew that they were there.  The stage was amazing from start to finish.
