It’s been finally announced that the collaboration show between Mnet and CJ E&M Entertainment, ‘Produce 101’ has an air date of January 22. Joining together along with 46 different agencies in South Korea and beyond, ‘Produce 101’ is a new idol survival show starring female trainees as they battle it out for an exclusive one year contract with CJ E&M in an eleven member unit group.
The idea of the show is that everything will be created on the show, from group name, concept, debut song, and who will be picked for the new group. The girls will still be a part of the agency they come from and even those chose for the special unit project may still debut in their agency’s future girl groups.
The members had already left their previous companies to all live together on December 5th and were first introduced as 98 on December 27th on ‘M! Countdown’ as they participated in their first music mission with ‘Pick Me’. Three girls have already dropped from the competition prior to the first mission.
For the girls’ training, several artists from some of the hottest groups in the business have been recruited for the show. Jang GeunSuk is serving as mentor and MC for the show while Brown Eyed Girls‘ vocalist JeA with work alongside vocal trainer Kim SungEun. Former After School member, Kahi has been recruited to assist choreographer Bae YoonJung and Cheetah will council the girls in rap. Ray Yang has been brought in to oversee the fitness training for all 98 girls.
This is the second largest budgeted show for Mnet costing four billion won. The show will air every Friday for eleven episodes at 11 o’clock at night KST. Check out the second version of ‘Pick Me’ from ‘Produce 101’ below!
My siblings and I are highly anticipating this show. Some of the most renown companies have sent trainees in like JYP, Jellyfish, Cube, DSP Media, Pledis and many more. Only two companies are definitely not participating in it; SM and YG Entertainment. The first song they sang was really catchy and we really enjoyed the styling. Are you excited about this new show and seeing how it develops? We want to hear your thoughts.
