James Lee, bassist of Royal Pirates, reveals details about his past near-fatal injury, at an interview for the first time, to Sport Donga.
He faced this accident last June, at a restaurant in Seoul, where he went for dinner with a friend, when a door frame crashed onto him injuring his wrist severely. At the interview, he revealed that the glass wall fell onto his head and the steel frame of the door fell too, crushing his left shoulder and wrist badly. It had taken an eight hour surgery to reconnect his wrist. Doctors have offered him a prosthetic to use, in case the wrist doesn’t heal completely due to the serious nerve damage, but, he has refused it because it could keep him from continuing to play music.
He also stated the pain he felt was similar to a knife cutting into the skin constantly. “I never can forget that nightmare”, he added.
However due to this incident, Royal Pirates comeback was postponed. Finally when they made their comeback in November with ‘Run Away’, Lee was still unable to play the bass, but, he played the keyboard upon convincing of the group’s producer, Joon Jae-yoon.
Agency is currently taking legal action against the restaurant.
Meanwhile, check out Royal Pirates – Run Away, below.
James was strong enough to bring himself back together after the incident which could have crushed his dreams in a second. He really has a great will power and never gives up easily. He seems to be going through physiotherapy for the complete recovery of his wrist. Let’s wish him a speedy and complete recovery for him to be with music as he used to be.
