Roy Kim’s real name is actually Kim Sang Woo and he was born on July 3, 1993. The producers knew this and asked me to use that name instead.”
His height is between 176cm and 178cm, his bloodtype is A and he’s the cousin of Rainbow‘s Yoonhye. His nickname is Fighting Cock (쌈딹). His ideal types are Jessica Alba and Han Hyejin, who he would really like to meet. He like acoustic and folk rock music and his favorite musicians are James Morrison and Damien Rice.
Roy Kim joined “Superstar K4” because he liked music and wanted to be recognized as a musician. He showed a natural talent and got better in each stage of “Superstar K4,” impressing the judges every time.
Roy Kim’s best friend, but also his rival in the TOP 10 of the show, was Jung Junyoung, who left the program after the Collaboration Mission.
After winning “Superstar K4,” he released his song “Passing By,” which was still not considered his official debut song since it was just a digital single.
After his sucessful debut with “Bom Bom Bom,” Roy Kim had his first comeback on June 24 with “Love Love Love,” a cute video where he walks through the city among his fans.
A while after his comeback, though, he announced that he would go back to the US to finish his studies at Georgetown University, leaving many fans sad because they wouldn’t see him for a long time. Roy Kim, however, promised that he would still be around, and he kept his promise by singing “Seoul Here” for “Reply 1994” OST.
As a rookie artist he won many awards, such as Mnet 20’s Choice, Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) and Golden Disk Awards.
There have been some rumors that he might be recording a new album in the US so let’s wait for it! Stay tuned for more news about Roy Kim and don’t forget to check the other profiles of KMusic Male Soloist Week!
