VIXX‘s Ravi has dropped his second mixtape ‘Nirvana‘.
‘Nirvana‘ features a total of seven songs including the title track ‘Nirvana‘ which features 15&‘s Park Jimin, ‘Boiling Point’, ‘Chameleon’, ‘Ravi Da Loca’, ‘Payday’, ‘Alcohol‘ and ‘Where Am I‘.
I have to be honest and admit that although I’m a fan of VIXX and Ravi, I was not a fan of his previous release ‘Bomb‘. It was almost as if he was trying too hard to prove that he’s a hard core rapper. With this release, Ravi has taken a step back and has adopted a more artistic, indie approach.
‘Nirvana‘ surpassed my expectations and proved what a serious contender he is. The genius move of featuring Park Jimin‘s vocals on the track is a perfect contrast to Ravi‘s distinctive and gruff rap. Not only that, the song doesn’t purely fit the pigeon hole of a hip-hop track, it has elements of a dance track at times.
The track has a deep house feel to it and the range of synths used ensure that the track is lighter and more appealing than you would expect. Ravi‘s grungy rap vocal which collides with Jimin‘s pure vocal is easily my favourite part of the track.
