On December 21st, SHINEE‘s MINHO released the music video to his new digital single, ‘Heartbreak’. This makes it his second solo single overall, following 2019’s SM Station single, ‘I’m Home’. In 2021, the singer marked a new year resuming promotional activities after completing his mandatory military enlistment late 2020. He went back on TV, appearance as a member of SBS‘s reality show, ‘Law of the Jungle’. Later in September, he was appointed as the radio host for Naver Now‘s broadcast, ‘Best Choice’. Discussing all things sport, it is a combination of a space for learning about the latest sporting news, as well as the singer’s general favourite things featuring occasional guests.
This new track’s subject matter is self-explanatory. Talking about the feelings post-heartbreak, it looks at the back and forth of how the hearts goes up and down, wondering and wistfully looking back at a relationship. The rapper surprisingly does not use rap in the song’s entirety. Instead, he opts for a fully sung track. The lower mature tone of his voice adds a seriousness and calmness towards the vibe. Its minimal R&B and synth instrumental further soothes listeners as it delivers its sorrowful message.

MINHO ‘HEARTBREAK’ MV:
Opening with a quick shot summary of the whole music video’s plot, we see the handsome singer sitting alone. Whether that be the bar, or at home, he receives a message from a mysterious number. In an attempt to track down the caller, we see him go on his multi-monitor setup, frantically using all means to find the source. Driving a car, he then ventures through highways only to come face-to-face with a stranded phone booth. Calling the digits written, the caller simply answers to ‘Burn the car’. Nonchalantly, he throws a lighter leading to a background to burning flames.
